Finance experience. Firsthand ownership perspective.
Profit in Bloom combines deep accounting and financial management experience with firsthand understanding of what it takes to run a green-industry business.
Founded by George Grigorakos, CPA, the firm is built to help owners see what is happening, understand what is changing and act before problems become harder to fix.
Finance taught me how to measure performance. Ownership taught me how hard it is to create it.
Before entering the green industry, I had spent most of my career in accounting and finance. I understood financial statements, forecasting, cash flow, profitability and the discipline required to manage a business by the numbers.
Then I owned a landscape and hardscape company.
I learned quickly that knowing the numbers was only part of the challenge.
You still need the right people, productive crews, enough good leads, market-aware pricing, accurate estimates and a realistic plan to keep people and equipment productive.
Even with a strong finance background, I underestimated how quickly problems in hiring, pricing, productivity or cash can compound when you do not see them early enough.
That experience changed what I believe useful financial management should provide an owner: clear visibility into what is happening, what is likely to happen next and where action may be needed before the problem gets harder to fix.

Some lessons become clearer when the decisions—and the consequences—are yours.
Clarity has to arrive early enough to act.
Knowing why a job, hire or investment failed after the money is already spent may explain the result. It does not recover the opportunity.
Owners need to see when reality is moving away from the plan while there is still time to respond.
The market gets a vote.
Knowing your costs and required margin matters. But that does not mean customers will accept the resulting price.
Lead quality, market pricing, positioning, perceived value and sales execution all affect whether the economics that work on paper can work in the market.
Capacity only pays when it becomes productive.
Another employee or another machine can create capacity. It also adds cost.
Before adding either, there should be a realistic plan for producing enough profitable work to justify the investment.
Hope needs objective checkpoints.
Owners have to make decisions with incomplete information. Optimism is part of entrepreneurship.
But important decisions still need measurable expectations: what has to happen, by when, how it will be measured, and what changes if the assumptions prove wrong.
Good advice starts with understanding the business.
Learn before prescribing.
A financial partner cannot understand the business from the P&L alone.
We want to understand how the company generates leads, sells, estimates, staffs work, produces jobs, uses equipment, manages capacity and gets paid before recommending what should change.
Keep it clear.
Owners should not have to translate finance jargon to understand what matters.
We focus on concise information, plain explanations and a clear recommendation when one can be made.
Say what needs to be said.
Our job is not to agree with every decision.
If we believe an assumption or course of action puts the owner’s goals at risk, we will explain the concern and recommend a different path.
Deliver the value we committed to.
Clients should not pay recurring fees for work that checks a box but does not help them.
We will stay focused on the outcomes and goals that justified the relationship in the first place.
